Getting ready · Before the first Easter
The first Easter
Probably no chocolate yet. But the photo with the little ears and the Easter letter last far longer than the egg.
What you can do, by age
- Before chocolate: the hunt can be for toys or soft animals hidden around the house.
- A basket with only a few things in it, hidden somewhere easy. Two or three discoveries are plenty.
- Paper bunny ears, made in five minutes, which produce the best photo of the day.
- Painting boiled eggs with washable paint, with newspaper underneath.
- If it is the very first one, accept that she will understand none of it. The celebration is yours.
About chocolate
What age to introduce chocolate is a conversation with whoever looks after her health, not with the internet. In the meantime the hunt works just as well with toys, and nobody misses anything: the fun is in looking and finding.
What to record
- The basket laid out, before anything else.
- The face at the instant she finds the first one. Have the camera ready and stay ahead of her.
- The messy mouth, if there is chocolate.
- A photo of the whole family, which is almost always the one that is missing.
- A fifteen second video of the hunt, with the sound.
The letter
Two lines in the evening: how old she was, who was there, and the funniest thing she did. Every year in the same format. In ten years you have the whole family's Easters documented.

The first Mother's Day
The photo that almost never exists is the mother with the baby, because she is the one taking the photos. Ask someone. Today is the day.
Getting ready
The first Father's Day
A recording of her father speaking to her at eighteen is worth more than any present he could be given today.
